What’s That Smell?

When I was in 6th grade our class went away to Camp Waskowitz for a week. I was excited and anxious for a parent free vacation and was looking forward to meeting all sorts of new friends.

After the first night at camp I remember ourĀ counselorĀ asking us to sit in a circle so we could discuss something. She told us that one of the campers had woken her up in the middle of the night to have her take them to the restroom and that she was not happy with that situation at all. She told us that we needed to use the restroom before bed and told us to just wait until the morning time to go again, once everyone was awake.

To my horror, the next evening I woke up in the middle of the night having to go to the bathroom quite badly. I knew there was no way that I could hold it but didn’t want to be the topic of discussion at the next circle time so I remember laying there in my sleeping bag thinking….”I will just go a little bit!” I began peeing and as you can imagine it felt wonderful and warm….so I kept going. Fast forward 6 days later….my sleeping bag and I wreaked of urine and were excited to get home to a clean bed!

P.S. I also dropped my toothbrush in the dirt the first night and was too grossed out to use a dirty toothbrush that I just didn’t brush my teeth for the rest of the week!

P.S.S. I am pretty sure no new friends were made. In fact, I probably lost some existing ones!
